Thomas Hacker FAIA
Founding Principal

As the founder of THA Architecture, Thomas Hacker, FAIA has led the design work of the firm for 25 years. His work has largely dealt with public institutions; libraries, schools, museums, theaters and places of public assembly. To them he has brought both artistic expression and a keen sensitivity to the nature of public use. His buildings have an understated dignity based on the beauty of material and carefully crafted construction. His work is noted for its rigorously organized plans and its expressive use of structure, material and abundant natural light.

His work has won many local, regional and national design awards; three national design competitions and has been published in a variety of magazines and books in the United States, Europe, the Middle-East and Asia.

Thom began his professional career in the office of Louis I. Kahn in Philadelphia. He was educated at the University of Pennsylvania and joined the faculty there in 1967 before moving to the University of Oregon in 1970 to continue his career as a teacher. Since founding the firm in 1983 he has continued his strong interest in education as a guest lecturer and critic at schools of architecture throughout the country.
